A Bigger Quotient

A Ruddington-based drug development company has announced it’s taken a major step into the American pharmaceuticals market.

Quotient Clinical, which has its head office at Trent House on Mere Way and employs around 250 staff, has acquired SeaView Research for an eight-figure sum. The multi-million pound deal sees Quotient expanding its operations into the USA and will see the firms combine their customer portfolios.

All new drugs undergo rigorous testing before they can be prescribed or sold and Quotient Clinical has been operating clinical trials with paid volunteers here in Nottinghamshire for around 20 years. During this time it’s been involved in the development of medicines for many key health issues facing the UK with specialist knowledge in developing once-a-day medicines and inhaled medicines. The current clinic includes 6 wards and 85 beds, lounges, a game room and even a conservatory!

SeaView was founded in 1995, and now has 160 employees across two clinical pharmacology units located in Miami and Jacksonville, Florida, and a combined bed capacity of 320. Both of the facilities are reported to be capable of undertaking complex clinical research studies – including first-in-human investigations.

SeaView’s American Headquarters

Mark Egerton, chief executive officer of Quotient Clinical, said: “Establishing an operational footprint in the US is an important milestone in the development of our business. We can now offer our customers the option to undertake their early phase clinical research either in the UK or the USA, and the acquisition of SeaView is a key component of our plan to replicate our Translational Pharmaceutics platform in the USA.”

Stuart Harris and Celina Alvarez, co-founders of SeaView, said: “We are excited to join forces with Quotient and are looking forward to working together to continue growing the business. The combination of the Quotient and SeaView businesses enables us to deliver full service support to our customers, and the market potential for Translational Pharmaceutics in the USA is significant.”

We guess a few of our Ruddington employees may now get the chance to sample some of the sights and sounds of the Sunshine State very soon!
